The short version
What's in here
This website and everything sold on it are run by Renée Dolling ("I," "me," "my," "we" or "us"), based in Castlegar, British Columbia, Canada.
I'm also the person responsible for privacy here, so if you have a question or a request, you're talking straight to me. My contact details are in section 17.
This policy explains how I collect, use, share and protect your personal information when you:
By using my website or services, you agree to this policy. If you don't agree, please don't use them, and if you've already shared info with me, you can ask me to delete it.
When you use the 9–5 Exit Plan, you type in things like your job, take-home pay, monthly costs, skills and available hours. That information is used only to build your plan on your screen. I don't save those answers or connect them to your email address.
If you comment on or message my Instagram, I can see your public username and profile picture and the content of your message. If you ask for a link by commenting a keyword (like "EXIT"), an automation tool sends you that link by DM. I don't access your private account data, your password or anyone else's messages.
I won't use your information for a new purpose without telling you first and, where the law requires it, asking for your consent.
I follow Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL). In plain English:
Signing up for a freebie means you're also joining my email list. I'll always say that right on the sign-up page.
I only share it in these situations:
These are the companies that help me run things, and what they get:
| Provider | What it does | What it gets |
|---|---|---|
| Systeme.io | Website pages, sign-up forms, email list and emails, checkout pages and course hosting | Name, email, purchases, course progress, email activity, technical data |
| Stripe | Payment processing | Name, email, billing address and card details |
| Netlify | Hosts the 9–5 Exit Plan tool | Technical data (like IP address and browser) |
| ManyChat | Sends links by Instagram DM when you ask for them | Instagram username and messages with me |
| Google Workspace | My business email | Emails you send me and your email address |
| Google Fonts | Displays the fonts on my pages | Technical data (like IP address and browser) |
| Meta (Instagram) | Where I post and chat with you | Whatever you share there, under Meta's own policy |
| Substack | My newsletter, The After Hours Empire | Your email and subscription, only if you sign up there |
Each of these companies has its own privacy policy, and I encourage you to read them. If I add or switch tools, I'll update this list.
Cookies are tiny text files your browser saves so a website can remember you. Here's how I use them:
| Type | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Essential | Logging you into your course, checkout and security. The site won't work properly without these. | Session to 1 year |
| Functional | Remembering your preferences | Up to 1 year |
| Analytics | Counting visits and seeing which pages and emails help, so I can improve them | Up to 1 year |
| Marketing | Showing relevant ads on other sites, if I run them. Only used with your consent where the law requires it. | Up to 1 year |
My emails may also include a tiny tracking image that tells me whether an email was opened, plus tracked links that show which links get clicked.
Your choices: you can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and turn off images in your email app to block open tracking. Blocking essential cookies may stop parts of the site, like your course login, from working.
Do Not Track: some browsers send a "Do Not Track" signal. My site doesn't currently respond to it, but you can use the options above instead.
I teach people to build with AI, and I use it in my own business too, for things like drafting content and planning. Here's my promise about your information:
The 9–5 Exit Plan generates your results with built-in logic on your screen. Your answers aren't sent to an AI company.
I only keep your information as long as I need it for the reasons in this policy, or as long as the law requires:
| Information | How long |
|---|---|
| Email list details | Until you unsubscribe and ask me to delete them, or after 2 years of no email activity, whichever comes first |
| Course accounts | For as long as you have access to the course, plus 2 years |
| Purchase and payment records | 7 years (Canadian tax law requires it) |
| Support emails and messages | 3 years |
| Technical and usage data | Up to 1 year, or per each provider's own policy |
When you ask me to delete your information, I'll delete or anonymize it within 30 days, except anything I'm legally required to keep (like tax records).
I'm in Canada, but some of the tools I use store and process information in other countries, including the United States and the European Union. When your information is outside Canada, it's protected by the laws of that country, and authorities there may be able to access it under their laws.
I choose providers that take security seriously and protect personal information through contracts and data processing agreements. By using my website and services, you consent to your information being transferred this way.
No website or storage is 100% secure, so I can't promise perfect security. If you notice a security problem, please email me right away.
If there's ever a breach involving your personal information that creates a real risk of significant harm to you, I'll let you know as soon as I reasonably can, report it to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, and keep a record of it, as Canadian law requires.
As a Canadian business, I follow the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), including their rules on consent, limiting what I collect, accuracy and accountability.
You also have the right to object to or restrict how I process your information, and to complain to your local data protection authority. I process your information on these legal grounds:
You have the right to know what personal information I collect, to ask me to delete it, and to not be treated differently for using your rights. I don't sell or share your personal information as those laws define it, so there's nothing to opt out of.
Email me at renee@reneedolling.com with the subject line "Privacy Request" and tell me what you'd like. I may need to confirm it's really you before I act on it. I'll respond within 30 days, and it's free.
My website, freebies and courses are made for adults and aren't meant for anyone under 18. I don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you're a parent or guardian and think your child has given me their information, email me and I'll delete it.
My website, emails and courses link to other sites and tools, like Instagram, Substack or AI tools I recommend. This policy doesn't cover them, and I'm not responsible for how they handle your information, so please check their privacy policies.
I may update this policy as my business and tools change. When I do, I'll change the "last updated" date at the top. If it's a big change, I'll also let you know by email or with a clear notice on my site, and ask for your consent again where the law requires it.
If you keep using my website or services after an update, that means you accept the new version. Earlier versions are available if you ask.
Questions, concerns or requests about your privacy? Come straight to me:
If you're not happy with how I've handled your concern, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (priv.gc.ca) or the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia (oipc.bc.ca).
This policy is governed by the laws of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada that apply there.
